It is indeed a grim day here. I really can't find any other words to say as they have been said. One of my employees has a son who works at The World Trade Center. His fate is unknown at present. This is a terrible thing.
[This message was edited by HowardR on 11 September 2001 at 10:19 AM.]

I heard about the planes and then the first tower falling (which I simply could not believe) on the way to work. When I got there (I arrive early so the place was dark and empty) I grabbed a small tv from our electronics lab and took it to my office, feeling sure I was about to see the most horrific and stunning images of my life.
I did.
I watched as the second tower, at first just smoking and flashing glimmers of flame, slipped downward into the smoke and dust. It was gone before the rambling newscasters even realized what was happening. I knelt and prayed, then went home to be with my family and prepare if broader national infrastructure (power, water, phones) were to be hit.
I have no words for this. I feel sick. This is unprecidented in our nation's history.

Thanks for your concern guys. I live outside of town by about 30 miles so I am not in danger. My fiance works about 10 blocks north of the blast but she is fine. Things are real messed up and Juliet is just trying to get home. She got a cel call out to me and she said it is a real nightmare on the ground. I have many friends that live and work right down there by the towers and I am very worried about them.
I need to free up my telephone line so I'll check in later.

Hi guys,,,,
I have "lyme" disease & I had an appointment
this morning at 9.30 am to see a specialist
downtown manhattan,,Vesey street to be exact.
My son in law works in the same area as the WTC,,I was going to meet him afterwards for lunch...I didnt feel good this morning,,,had a few pains in the chest,,,called my son in law early on his cell phone,,,,it was about 8.10 am told him I didnt feel good and couldnt meet him and I was going to cancel the doctors app't,,,,he said....he was having a bad time...with what he thinks in a stomach flu...you know,,,you have to stop often.....he said he was going to call me at
the doctors office and leave word that he couldn't meet me for lunch...I live about 90 miles from ,downtown Manhattan here in North East PA....
He went home thank god,,,& I didnt feel good
I was watching The Today Show with Katy Couric and trying to reach the doctors office to cancel my appointment,,,couldnt get through.....I heard Katy talking about the plane hitting the building at the WTC.I thought it was some kind of a movie preview
when I heard the news,,I almost fell to the floor. My wife grabbed me and started to cry,
and I did as well.....I thought about those poor souls that said goodbye to their loved one's this morning and went to work not to know they would never get home.
God rest their souls,,,,and Ret Cop....you said it right,,,,get those bastards.....should have leveled them in Iraq
during the Gulf war.....if thats where this tragedy originated,,,,,God Bless all of them and their families,,,,,,They will be found
I hope that George W. blows them away. Dont like to sound harsh,,,,but those bastards who were responsible for this dont deserve to live.....Im glad I didnt feel good this morning....unbelievable

Bob and Jody, I'm so happy to see you guys post, I hope that everyone else is okay, I realise that in such a heavily populated area everyone's going to be affected in some way.
I said to my partner, well the world's a different place now. And I'm so sorry for everyone in the areas affected and their families.

Jody; Thank God you were spared. I have been thinking about you (and Bob Hofnar..) all day as this unfolded. I thought it would be best to wait and see. Didn't want to add to the confusion. It is a relief to know that while you may not be as well as you should be, you are not in that mess. The leaves will be turning soon and I'm going to take a long look this time to be sure and appreciate the good things we have. Again; THANK GOD !! I'm in town and quite safe. If I didn't have the TV on and there were no sirens, I wouldn't have know anything was wrong. The prevailing winds were away from the city so I would look out of the window and see a deep blue sky. I'm about three miles away from the former WTC.
It's quite unreal. Unless you've seen these buildings up close, you just can't sense how big these things were from seeing them on television.
I don't personally know anyone who's been effected by this, but I'm sure it's only a matter of time and everyone I've talked too today has the same sense of impending dread.
It's moments like this that bring home how great a city this is and how great the people who inhabit it are. It pains me deeply when I hear (or read) nasty comments made about my city and home. Let's all stand together, shoulder to shoulder and weather this horrible tragedy, not just Americans but Human Beings deserving of respect.

My girlfriend Susie has a cousin that works at the Pentagon. She had a meeting this morning and on the way out looked in her mirror and saw the smoke. She went back and helped a couple co-workers out. It shocks me beyond belief. We need to pray for all the families involved in this tragic event. I feel for every one of them.

For any of you who know Shannon Ford (drummer)or Alice Ripley (Rocky Horror singer/actress) or Marty Fischer (drummer) or Carolee Goodgold (singer), they are all ok.
Shannon and Alice live about 20 blocks from the former towers. Shannon worked with Danny Gatton and also the Redneck Jazz project as well as still doing some Gatlin shows and Broadway stuff.

Tony...I thank you. I was stunned as were millions of others. My reason for making an appointment with a "lyme" disease specialist
is that this doctor has a reputation of being
able to cure "lyme" disease.
God works in many ways,,,I was spared by having chest pains and having to cancel my
appointment,,,I will deal with the chest pains today,,,think its bronchial and nothing
more than that...Thanks for you concern. PS.
a friend of my son in law and co worker who works in the area
of the WTC called him late last night,,,,told him it looked like a movie set
it was a living horror,,,,took that fellow 12 hours to get home,,,where is usually takes about 45 minutes,,,,,unbelievable.

I work at the Marine terminal in Port Newark which is within site of the Trade Center. The second plane to hit the trade center flew right over us. The memory of watching that plane ram into the trade center and the subsequent collapse will be etched in my memory forever.
Watching how the city and the Tri-State area has responded to this catasrophe is a site to behold.
The whole experience truly showed the absolute worst and best of mankind.
Unbelievable..

I hate to say this, but I've long suspected the loyalities of the many Arabs currently living in America. I hear the NYC cabbies have removed the rags from their heads but that you can still see the indentations in their hair.
What do all of you NY guy's and gal's think? Will many people pay to ride with these cabbies?
Regards,
HH

I am ashamed that hard working cab drivers feel like they need to change how they look because of ignorant, racist morons!
Those cab drivers were the first people in line volunteering their cabs to help in the rescue when it first came down. They are Americans and compassionate humans just like ALMOST everybody else around here.

So whats the answer? It's easy to sit there and make the statement don't make the same mistake as with the Japanese in WW2.
On the other hand there are Arabic communities here in Patterson NJ where the were dancing in the damn streets after it happened!!!
I'm definately torn.. I know that the vast majority of the Arabic community in the area are feeling just like the rest of us.
But also believe me when I tell you that a large number of them hate this country and are here just to make money to send back to their homes abroad.
If we are to adopt the "we are at war"
mentality, and trust me when I tell you that
is by far the sentiment of the majority in this area, adjustments in how we think have to be made.
If that means shipping everyone of Arabic
decent out of the country I cant honestly say I'm against it.. I can't believe I'm saying this but it's true.. I'm scared!! ..
For me and my family... After watching that second plane hit we all looked at each other ... We were waiting for the blinding flashing light for Gods sake!!
... I just don't know..

Some of the remarks above are disturbing because many of us in Oklahoma City had the same reaction following our bombing. In reference to that, I am placing a copy of an e-mail that I sent yesterday to a Forum member (His name is removed as I didn't want to use it without permission)
......"Thank you for your kind remarks. I know it is natural for people to want to
strike out in frustration over these events, but I can well remember the
mistake some of us in Oklahoma City almost made in the aftermath of our bombing
when innocent foreign nationals were nearly lynched because the initial
reaction was that this had to be a middle-eastern terrorist strike.
How shocked we were to find out it was one of our own citizens....and how
much worse it would have been if those retributions had been carried out
against the wrong persons.
Your remarks are right on base"........
We must not punish the innocent before we find the guilty!

That galls me. If they feel that way about us, they should get the hell out of here and not live here like parasites. I don't support running all the Arabs out of the country by the way, but the above really galls me.there are Arabic communities here in Patterson NJ where they were dancing in the damn streets after it happened!!!
