Suggestions for strings triple neck

Post by Mark Davis »

Getting this triple neck next week so gotta plan on what strings to buy.

I think I'm gonna try C6th on the front neck E13th on the middle neck and B11th on the back neck.

I have tried the SIT semi flat wound strings before but like most flatwounds they had a sorta dead sound as compared to the round wound ones.

I do like the effect the semi-flat wounds have on the less string noise tho.

Looking at all the strings at juststrings.com I see some pedal steel guitar strings that are 10 string sets looks like I could just get those and not use the 2 lowest strings.

Has anyone done that with any success?

Or any recommendations are welcome.

I believe Scotty's Music sells 8 string sets for those 3 tunings.

Thanks Roger. I checked the strings at Scottys he wants $10 a set for the same strings I can get at juststrings.com for $4.75 for E13th or $6.07 a set for C6th the exact same strings.

Thats too much of a price difference to me.

I can get 2 sets of the E13th for less than Scotty's sells 1 set for so its a no brainer where to buy them from. I just dont want the semi-flat wounds they sound too dull to me.

You can now get Jagwire singles from the Forum catalog. We're only carrying the nickel wounds (no stainless). Order just the gauges you need. No shipping charges!
www.b0b.com/products/strings.html - The singles are at the bottom of the page.

I use Jagwire strings exclusively and I'm very happy with them.

Thanks Bob. I'll get a couple sets from you and try them out. I like the idea of free shipping!! And in a round about way helping out the forum which I'm all for.

Thanks for the heads up!!!

It's not "in a round about way" at all, Mark. The profits from catalog sales help to pay the Forum's internet bill every month.

By the way, I've sold out of the Herb Remington E13 sets (stainless) and I'm dropping them from the catalog. There wasn't enough demand for them. Most people prefer the E13 with G# on top and B on the bottom, like the pedal steel E9th.
