At least one of Jerry Douglas' CD's has some Indian-type lap steel on it. Jerry plays some with an Indian guy, but I can't remember his name.
Also, if you go to the links section of this site, then find Brad's page of Steel, I think you will find some other links to Indian-style steel. I happen to like it, myself, from what I've heard.

Jeff:
This topic was discussed in some detail in a posting by Bill Leff ("You mean you don't have one of these?") September 18, 2000. Input "have one of these" on the search engine and it'll take you there. You'll find some very useful information on the history of Indian steel, some major players and suggestions on how to obtain recordings, thanks mostly to our resident expert, Surinder Singh.

Yes Sir - I don't know if this is what Andy Volk was talking about (above), but, by all means get thyself a listen to 'A Meeting By the River' by Ry Cooder and V.M. Bhatt. You will not be disappointed.
And another GREAT, GREAT CD, IMO. 'Making Music' by Zakir Hussain, an Indian percussionist who basically spends the better part of an hour improvising through 8 songs with John McLaughlin (acoustic guitar), H. Chaurasia (flutes), and Jan Garbarek (saxes). No slide guitar per se, but if you like music with an Indian flavor, this thing is outstanding!
