Hi, the performance channel has been showing a series called Nanci Griffiths and Friends.. I've caught bits of two out of three, and she's using Dobro in accoustic sessions. Living as I do in the UK, this is actually the first time I've seen or heard Dobro playing on the box. Quite and ear (and eye) opener. I've got a ways to go.
Unfortunately i've no idea who it was who was playing... anyone know?
Also, one section featured a white, bearded jazz/blues singer with a Les Paul Goldtop who was backed up by a guy playing a Weissenborn style guitar. It sounded absolutely stunning. Anyone know who it was? Also, are there any luthiers making quality, reasonably priced Weissenborn style instruments?
Cheers
AC

Unfortunately a search of the two Nanci Griffith web sites I've been able to find had no mention of this show. Her band consists of James Hooker -- Keyboards, vocals; Lee Satterfield -- Guitars, mandolin, vocals; Doug Lancio -- Electric guitars; Ron de la Vega -- Bass, cello; and Pat McInerney -- Percussion.
There are a number of Weissenborn-style guitars being made currently. Probably the most affordable model is by Berkeley Musical Instrument Exchange.
