JB 'By Request'
I just got the CD of JB's 'By Request' and am delighted with it. I am puzzled however by the guitar shown on the sleeve notes - it looks like a D8 but with a weird offset steel headstock. What is this and why is it shown ? Surely JB was using the BD7 on these tracks ?
Does anyone know what tunings were used on this album - is it all C6 with the low c# ?

That is a sho-bud D-8 especially made for Jerry Byrd by the late Shot Jackson.
He tunes the top neck to A7/C6:
E
C
A
G
E
C#
C
A (low, low A {same note as the 10th string D-10 pedal 8})
bottom neck
E
C
B
A
G
F
E
note he does not install the 8th string on this neck.
Most of the songs were done on one or the other neck on this guitar. If my memory serves me correctly, there maybe a tune or two where he uses his 8 string Fry Pan.
take care,
carl
