Old Sheet Music
Greetings friends,
Recently a student I steel with brought me a
binder full of old music....original Oahu sheets. Most of it was Hawaiian, but there was an original of "Steel Guitar Rag" with
a publish date of 1941.I was excited to see
these sheets with steel tab, etc.
I have no knowledge about private collections, or what examples of old steel guitar music may have been preserved in the
SG Hall of Fame, or in other similar places
& collections. My question is: should I make
some effort to have these preserved, enshrined, donated to a collection somewhere,
or is this music more common than I may have
thought.(sheets are almost 60 yrs old)
I would welcome others' ideas & information
about this music.
Kind Regards, John O'Neill .

This type of sheet music is not uncommon (do a search on eBay for "hawaiian guitar" to see many auctions of the same), but I agree with your desire to see such music preserved.

Seems like I remember some old sheet music having really interesting cover art. They might look very nice framed and hung on the wall of your music/practice room. Just make sure the mounting of the sheet music is done in such a way as to not damage it (permanently attaching it to another surface would not be good), otherwise any value would be diminished.

I am looking for old steel guitar lesson music that was written and published by
the Natural Music Guild in Santa Ana, Calif.
in the late 40's, 50's, and 60's. The name of the course was called the "The Natural Method". If anyone has any information please email me -chuckguitar@msn.com
Have a great day, Chuck
