Hi Kenny !
I have never heard that particular arrangment of it. Does it involve special chords, or would a generic version do the trick ? If so, what key do you like to play it in ?

Kenny, I have an old vinyl album of Sammie Smith doing this tune, with Wade Ray on fiddle. It's done real slow with lots of soul. Hal Rugg is on steel and does a fine into and solo. it's done in Bb with a straight country progression. It does a walk up to C7 and a walk down to G7.
Hope this helps.

Here's the words:
If I had the heart of a clown,
I'd smile every time you make me blue,
If I had the heart of a clown,
You wouldn't see me cry the way I do,
I'd paint a smile upon my face each time you hurt me so,
My arms would long for your embrace, but you would never know,
I'd smile as my dream world tumbles down,
If I had the heart of a clown,
Break
I'd paint a smile upon my face each time your hurt me so,
My arms would long for your embrace, but you would never know,
I'd smile as my dream world tumbles down,
If I had the heart of a clown.

Hi John and Jim. Thanks much for you input and the words. I requested Wade's arrangement because I think his was different from the arrangement done by Curtis Potter on the last Swing Shift album. I can't put my finger on it but, as I remember the song by Wade, it had an ear catching way of entering the bridge. I haven't heard Sammi's version but I am sure Hal did a great job on it. Wish I could find an MP3 version somewhere. I have no key preference. I will transpose if needed. Thanks again fellas...

Kenny;

With John Steele 'on the job', you're sure to get a great tab on this great tune.

Johnny Cox has a really super version on his "Ballads, Shuffles & Swing" CD. I saw him play it at the Dallas Steel show and he does it right! Listen; you'll like it!

Good luck,
