BE It's All In the Swing Out of Nowhere pg. 53

Post by Sam Minnitti »

Hi,

In transcription for Out of Nowhere from "It's All in the Swing"...page 53, last two measures...one measure seems missing and what is indicated in the last measure on that page over the Eb7 does not seem correct. I can hear the correct melody for those two measures, but the chords underneath are giving me trouble.

Can anyone help?

Thanks

It looks right to me. Image

My guitar is at the gig, so I don't have it handy to check it out.

Don't forget to raise the 4th string, as indicated in the tab. It makes all the difference.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

Ernie

Hi Ernie,

Thanks for the reply; Something just doesn't seem right.

Here is what is written in the transcription, last measure on pg 53 (measure 13)

Eb7

<font face="monospace" size="2"><pre>
__________________________________________
__________________________________________|
__________________________________________|
__13i---13_____________________13i---13___|
__13(5--_______13(5____13(5--_____________|
__13___________13______13----_____________|
__13___________13______13----_____________|
_______________13______13----_____________|
__________________________________________|
__________________________________________|
</pre></font>

Here is what I think Buddy does on the recording I have (measures 13 and 14)

<font face="monospace" size="2"><pre>
_______________________________________________________________________
___________________________________|___________________________________|
___________________________________|___________________________________|
___13__---12________________12--13_|__13---12_________________12---13_ |
___13(5---12(5___13(5__13(5________|_____________13)5__13)5____________|
___13__---12_____13____13__________|____________ 13____13______________|
___13__---12_____13____13__________|_____________13____13______________|
_________________13____13_________ |_____________13____13______________|
___________________________________|___________________________________|
___________________________________|___________________________________|
</pre></font>

Any help you or anyone else can give is appreciated.

Thanks!

Sam,
The chord section is correct on the last bar of the page except that the "i" knee lever in the first set of chords should be the "h" lever that lowers the 4th string 1/2 tone and should be at the second 13 and not the first as written. In other words, play the first chord with pedal five only and then engage the "h" lever for the lowered note. The "i" in the second set of chords is in the proper place but should also be the "h" lever.
A bar following that is missing and should read almost identical to the last bar on the page, as it is a repeat of the same melody. Thanks for drawing my attention to it. I'll print a correction sheet for my present inventory of books.
