Is John's name on it? You might check with Charlie Archer, he would probably know. Could have been his!

Hi Paul:

We did many package shows with Conway back in the good 'ol days. Ir was always great seeing and hearing John.

Regarding John playing Peavey amps, he definitely did at times. I know that he used a Session 400 on quite a few recording sessions. He also used a Session 500 along with one of his Evans FET 500s on at least one series of shows we did with Conway and The Twitty Birds. John and I both thought that the Session 500 had some similar characteristics to the FET 500 including the front mounted speaker. John and I both had endorsements with Evans back then and I usually played through John's amps when we did those shows as Conway was the headliner. The Session 500 sounded really good.

I hope you are well.

I was in an opening band for Conway once and John was playing through a pair of Peavey Vegas amps.

Good info from Tiny. I don't see Hughey's name anywhere on the amp or the road case.

I know nothing about this, but considering the Artist is a ss over tube amp and aimed at guitar players, I'd be surprised if it met John's standards for stage use. I suspect it was a guitar player's amp or a spare.

This amp does barely OK for E9 playing, but really doesn't cut it for C6 for which John used a lot. They were powerful enough I guess @ 120 tube watts of 6L6 power, but the tone stack and design, even the models with the 1501-4, just weren't right for the midrange freq. of steel guitars. At least that is what I found from the 2 I used to own.

But...the speaker grille has been modified which makes one wonder if other mods could have been done to make it better for steel guitar use.

Back in 1968-71 I saw Conway and the Twitty Birds 4-5 times. At the first show a friend introduced me to Mr. Huey.
Conway met Pork Chop, Who was playing with the Compton Brothers at 1 of these shows and shortly after, Pork Chop became a Twitty Bird.
In some of the shows, Conway was playing lead guitar himself.
That particular amp. could have been Conway's personal lead amp.
The last time I seen Conway at Fairmont Theater, Conway vocals and lead, Joe Lewis Bass and harmony, Pork Chop on drums, Mr. John Huey on steel.
What a 4 piece band.

Hey Paul:

I can't say that I remember that band. Glad they're getting back together nonetheless.

I remember well my friend Jim Shepherd though. Jim was a great guy and super smooth player. I believe you and I have spoken about Jim before. I still have a photo of he and I at our black D-10 Emmons Originals taken in 1980 at a club near your location. Jim was in the house band. In the background is Jim's Webb amp and my Evans. He and I kept in touch over the years, he was an awesome guy!!

Take care and God Bless you my friend.
