Carter S10 6th String Geardown Rodding

Post by Paul Hutzler »

Does anyone have a Carter with the 6th string geardown that could tell me the pull bar rodding positions for that setup? Its not in the carter rodding chart and i want to double check that mine is setup according to the factory. There are 4 pullbars involved in the setup : two pullbars on the B crossshaft and two pullbars on the slave crossshaft. I need to know what pullbar slots to use. Thank you.

Factory setup you'd have the gear-down rod in the 2nd slot out from the B pedal cross shaft, and in the 4th slot out on the slave shaft. Rod in the string 6 pull bar on the slave shaft would be in the 1st slot, and in the 1st raise hole in the changer (closest to changer axle). However... that's a starting point, pull timing will still vary depending on the type and gauge 6th string you use. A heavier plain string (like a .022") requires a shorter pull, a wound string will require a much longer pull, so you may still need to adjust leverages to get the pulls in sync depending on your preference.
