12” speaker light weight
I am looking for a speaker to use with my dr surgical steel amp other than the tt12 and pf350. I love the tone of the pf350 but it is soooo heavy. Not crazy abt tt12 as it sounds a little thin to my ears. Any suggestions as what to get? Must be able to handle at least 100w. Anyone tried the swamp thang or Texas heat? Just needs to be lighter than the pf. Thanks..

What cabinet and amp were you using with the TT12? I played one a bunch and "thin" is not a word I would have used, as the highs roll off quickly above 3kHz. In fact I got several admiring comments on how big and warm sounding my little TT12 combo was. No 12" speaker can project clean pedal steel sound in a loud band setting but short of that my only complaint with the TT12 was lack of the high end clarity I am used to with JBL speakers.

I am using a dr z surgical steel thru a rick Johnson cabinet. Maybe thin is not the correct word, it just sounds so much richer with the pf350 speaker. I’m looking for something to split the difference so I don’t have to take the pf on tour.

I swapped out the neo TT12 for an old alnico JBL D120F, heavier than the TT12 but oh soooo yummy. My only concern is power handling of the older JBL so if the band is likely to be loud at all I take a 15" K130 instead. A K120 would be ideal IMHO.

I'm typically not a fan of neodymium speakers but one I found acceptable for my needs is the Eminence Wheelhouse. I think it's rated at 150 watts, and has a hemp cone. I would say it's a warm sounding speaker with a flat or balanced response.

Thanks everyone. I put the tt12 back in the cab for now but will keep your suggestions in mind for the future!
