WGS G12C/S in Fender Princeton

Post by Mark Keogh »

G'day steelers,
I'm wanting to put a 12 inch speaker in a 64 reissue (hardwired) Fender Princeton. I have a Session 400 which sounds like heaven but I want something that will work well for recording at suitable volumes that I can naturally drive a little for alt-country stuff. I wanted to use a Jupiter 12LC but they are not available in Australia and will cost $500 AUD plus $200 for baffle and fit out. My amp tech suggested a WGS G12C/S as an alternative that will fit, is available locally for half the cost of a Jupiter and it is cheerfully orange. I'm tempted... Any advise would be appreciated, thanks

I believe the model you are referring to is the G12C/S. I have a G12C, which is similar to a Jenson C12N. My understanding is the WGS G12C/S is not as bright as the G12C. I find that my G12C is quite bright, so the G12C/S might be a good choice. The only way to know is to give it a try, if you can, before committing to purchase. It all depends on the sound you're after. My preference is for alnico speakers in old Fender amps.

I have a Princeton Reverb and I couldn't stand the Jensen C10Q that it came with. Put in a WGS ET10, which is the 10 inch version of their popular ET65 12 inch speaker. Sounds good and has better bottom end than the Jensen.
