Paul Franklin 15 inch speaker 400
Any one know on the Paul Franklin speaker 15 inch 8 omens . If my Nashville 400 amp carries a 4 omens speaker. If I put the Paul Franklin 15 8 omens speaker in it . Will it cut the power down on the amp. If that’s so that means you will have to turn more of the volume up on the amp more to get volume. But if I’m not mistaken it will also heat the power amp up more. I would like to try this in my Nashville 400 amp but I’m concerned on that. May be Paul see this message maybe he can answer it or if any body else has the answers I would appreciate it thanks.

You can safely run an 8 ohm speaker in place of the 4 ohm and you’ll experience no negative impact on your amp. In fact, it’ll actually run a bit cooler if anything. You’ll lose a bit of volume which is remedied by turning it up a bit more. We usually run our volumes at about 2 or 3 anyway. Some assume a loss of approximately 50% of volume but that’s not accurate. There’s a formula out there somewhere that figures the actual decrease to about a third less and that depends on speaker efficiency.
At any rate…your amp will see a lower demand. I stopped using 4 ohm speakers years ago and strictly use 8 ohm JBL’s. It gives me the ability to run two speakers in the same amp should I choose and the single 8 ohms just seems to have a smoother response and generate less heat.

You can also hook up another 8 ohm speaker in parallel. That will make it 4 ohms, and double your speaker area for increased volume!

I have regularly used my Nashville 400 with an 8 ohm Eminence neo 15" "sample" speaker with no issues whatsoever. Yes, there is a drop in volume but this is easily compensated for, if required, by turning the amp up. In practice, you'll find the amp will perform perfectly. You may use your amp with confidence.
