Best pickup for square neck reso?
I need get a pickup for my square neck resonator, and I have no clue what to add.
The band is 5 piece, not so quiet. Mostly smaller venues thru the winter and mostly outdoor larger stuff in spring and summer.
I play steel, tele, all thru my Evans SE 200. I’ve been using a Tom Bradshaw reso pedal with lap steel and that has worked ok.
But I’m looking add the reso. I’d love to keep it under $300. I’m hoping to get some ideas as I’ve never checked out pickups.
Thanks,
Steve from Washington.

Increase your budget and install the Fishman Nashville bridge and get the Jerry Douglas Fishman Aura pedal (with many mic “images”).
It will keep you from constantly trying to get the other pickups and systems to work properly in all the venue scenarios that you listed.
It works. Perfectly. In all conditions.

A banjo, like a pet monkey, seems like a good idea at first.

Thanks for the answers fellas!
Brett, thanks for the sim info, I didn’t know.
Brooks, I’m sold now! I hate messing around trying to get
something to sound ‘right’. And my most amazing wife is on the same page.
She says “Spend the extra $ to get the right stuff”.
If you buy cheap, that’s what you get.
I’m on it!
