Cant figure out this hum

I'm having an awful time on tour with a hum and I'm wondering if anyone can help me troubleshoot.

I'm playing an '82 emmons SD PP and my amp is a Roland JC40. When I go straight from the pickup to the amp there is a nasty hum. Its not the 1/4" cable. Tonight we opted to run the steel into a DI instead of the amp. The hum was still there.

Could it be the jack on my pedal steel? I've done many tours with this setup and have not come up against this issue before.

I guess I need to go get a hum debugger.

Sounds like what happened to me as you lost your ground from your pickup to your strings somehow.
You can get you a wire and solder It To The Ground part of the input jack and then the other side just unscrew a screw that somehow is touching anything to the changer and then you will have proper grounding to the strings. try that.

You can test Ricky's idea with a couple alligator clips and a length of wire. If it stops the hum then you need to do the soldering job.
