No comparison. GarageBand is a Digital Audio Workstation, or DAW, while Audacity is more comparable to an audio file editor.
The fact is Audacity does not have the rich feature set and accessories as GarageBand. If you have GarageBand I'd advise to use it.
However, if you find GarageBand confusing then you may prefer the simplicity Audacity offers.
The two most unsettling restrictions I find with Audacity are: 1) you can't hear changes you make in real time as you make them. 2) It doesn't work with MIDI so you can't use virtual instruments. GarageBand does not have either limitation.
The fact is Audacity does not have the rich feature set and accessories as GarageBand. If you have GarageBand I'd advise to use it.
