Recording an Amp with Garageband

Post by Robbie Bossert »

Here's what I'm doing:
I put the amp (Nashville 1000), in another room. Mic it with a Shure 57. run the line into the interface (PreSonus), When creating a new project, you're prompted to choose with Mic, Amp, and a few other irrelevant options....All I want is a clean, unaffected tone coming from the amp. Which do I choose? Mic Or Amp?

If you are recording with the mic I assume you will have to choose the mic.
I always mic my amps and record that way. For me it works quite well.
I have stuff.
I try to make music with it.
Sometimes it works.
Sometimes it doesn't.
But I keep on trying.

Robbie, I’m no longer using Garageband, but did until recently... I was doing pretty much what you’re wanting too... I had a Session 500, I was micing with an SM-57... I might add, that the Session 500 was sitting just to my left and I could reach out and touch it... to avoid recording pedal noise, I put pillow up against the mic which was maybe a couple inches in from the outer rim... I too, use a PreSonus, the Firestudio Project and for effects was using a Lexicon MPX1... when you start GarageBand for a new project click empty song, and then with your next screen click on the voice or mic and you should be good to go... here’s a recoding I did just as described above.

Thanks for the advice guys...Still trying to find my way around this whole DAW home recording thing...@ Dale...I would be more than happy if I could come close to the tone you got there...Sounds great!
