help with Cubase
I am using Cubase Essential 4 on a Windows. years ago I set everything up and have had no problems after the initial learning curve.
I haven't recorded anything in over a year. Now I want to and I have discovered a glitch. I recall it is a common glitch. Since I have apparently lost some acuity or expertise running this program I am unable to solve my problem.
I use a digital interface and that is working as I have an instrument plugged in and am getting sound on my monitors.
I shall assume the interface is working.
I have gone into Device setup and my ASIO drivers are clicked and recognized as well as my interface.
That is how everything had been set up originally and I haven't changed anything over the years.
My problem ...I have no input or output from the track I have active. I played my instrument and there is no sound level activity lighting up in the recording program (there is activity on the interface input level bar).
I tried playing back a recording for a while ago and there is no sound.
I tested by importing recorded tracks and still during playback I have no sound. nothing registers on the track monitor or sound level slider.
I tried clicking Monitor on....nothing.
Monitor off...nothing. no change.
I called a friend that uses Cubase 5. he walked me through the Device setup menu and everything checks out.
does anyone have any ideas for a solution?

addition findings: when I go into Device manager and change ASIO to my computer desk top speakers (identified in the menu) I have sound and can see audio input to the EQ and output monitor bars.
switching back to my interface ASIO I have no sound and audio showing.
so the problem is with the digital interface, Lexicon Lambda.
any ideas?

the learning curve has always been steep for me at the beginnings. once I have recorded a few times the process becomes easier. my troubles began and continue somewhat from not recording for over a year. I forgot the simple steps. for instance, I don't remember how to drag and drop a beat track from EZdrummer. I forgot how to get the MIDI working again.
Cubase is not overly intuitive. also, learning a new language (the user manual) hurts my brain.
Steinburg has a good support forum. I used it often years ago.
I am not sure when it changed, but recently when trying to log on again I found the site has moved.
I now have to rejoin. The site asks for the products activation code. when I punch mine it it is not recognized. I won't be able to use the help forum again. alas.
I haven't any answers for your problem with Cubase 6.
just try following the instructions repeatedly.
