Hi Ron,
it is not the software, the DAW as it's called (Digital Audio Workstation), but in this case the interface.
If you record with the whole band at the same time, you need at least an 8 in/out interface, better 16 in/out.
The more calculationpower your PC or Mac has, the smoother it works.
An alternative is Reaper software, I believe $30.00
(I work with Cubase 5, will update to 6, and it's worth every buck!)
A 'good'interface for it's price is this:
http://tascam.com/product/us-1800/
about $300 including cubase light software!!
Please talk to people that record, before you gonna buy software, hardware etc......
take care,
Johan

I fooled around a lot with Cubase 4 that was bundled with my Yamaha XS-8, but since acquiring a MacBook, PT 9, I've discarded the Cubase in favor of PT. The only drawback I see (and it's not a biggie) is that Cubase/Yamaha provide a FireWire driver, while with PT I have to use USB, but that's plenty fast enough for everything I've tried.Jason Hull wrote:Pro Tools 9 works with any interface.

Not sure if that helps, but I find that a standard set of software is better than what ever catches my eye or is bundled.
