Zoom R24 - Reaper Home Studio with Studio Projects Preamp

Post by Greg Cutshaw »

Got the whole studio together, new strings on the guitar and just too many details to post them all here. Click on the link below for pictures, a new recording, equipment list, etc

The Studio Projects hybrid tube preamp has no audible noise! This was my biggest concern with the new studio. It's dead quiet whether used for a steel to amp preamp or a mic to Zoom R24 preamp. Even when the lead instruments' audio level trail off to zero, there is no white noise or hum other than that produce by the amp. This makes recording a snap and a pleasure!

Greg, good stuff. Glad to hear you like the R24 and surprised you dumped the AW.. as I also dumped my Aw2816 for the R16 !.

Limited bells and whistles but overall these Zooms ( R16/24) do exactly what you need with good quality and the interfacing of files with the DAW software is a blessing ! I have also found the on board effects and processing to be pretty good as well, so completing a project on bd this 16 inch piece of plastic is not an issue !

Have you done anything with the on board (R24) drums and pads ?

Tony, the R brotherhood is a good thing. I just joined that forum, thanks for the tip.

If I was going to use the R24 patterns, I would buy the midi editor for them that's linked on a lot of the Zoom review pages.

I wish there were a 25 slider USB control surface that you could plug in. Nothing fancy, just to have access to all 24 channel sliders and the master slider all the time. I did notice that you can leave the Track screen on all the time and use the rotating dial and cursor keys to access and change the slider settings for all tracks in one place.
