Line 6 pod ?

Post by richard burton »

I'm looking for some sort of device that I can use for recording my steel to my computer.

At the moment I am using the line out on my Peavey Vegas amp, but I could do with something less bulky that could be left set up all the time.

Would a Line 6 pod 2 do the job ?

I'm looking for a clean sound with delay and reverb, and some eq parameters to get my steel sounding like a steel.

I know that the pod is aimed at guitarists, and possibly might not be able to deliver for pedal steel.

Has anyone tried a pod ?

The POD XT is the desired one for Steel Guitar. I use mine to record "direct to the board".

Yeah, Pod XT has what you're looking for. I actually often prefer the sound of recording the steel completely DI (dry, no effects, straight in) and adding some reverb to the track.

I always use the pod 2.0 direct to the board, no problems.

While I have never used a POD XT I recently did some recording using a Tech21 "Blonde" pedal as a DI. I was really impressed with it but mind you it is an amp simulator of sorts that is intended to give a sound similar to brown face through silver face era fender amps. If this sounds like something you might like I would not hesitate to try one. I believe Randy Beavers was using one as a DI box on fly away gigs. They sound surprisingly good for the money.

This demo recording uses a PodXT direct into a studio board. I'm happy with it. Learning to custom program it to your tastes is essential.

Based on Forum threads I used the XT (bought used on the Forum <thanks>) for a few years, and was quite pleased. When it croaked a few months ago I coughed up the $$ for an X3Live. (the X3 wasn't immediately available and I have no ability or desire to wait for music related toys). The X3Live is a tremendous improvement in my opinion. It gets the sound to the board that I was hearing in the headphones of the XT is the only way I have to verbalize the improvement. I have only used it for direct to board recording (Tascam 2488).

As an afterthought, there appears to be a consensus from some exceptionally competent folks on the forum that the XT is the Pod of choice; it is an excellent product. I have greatly benefited from various posts of all folks in this thread on a variety of subjects. I value each of your insights and expertise and would encourage careful deliberation before coughing up any extra $$$ based on my humble opinion.
