Goodbye to another great Atlanta Drummer

Post by Mark van Allen »

Just on the heels of the loss of drummer Mark Ensley, we have to say goodbye to another Atlanta icon. I heard from his wife Susie that Sunday Greg Mauldin had a heart attack while jogging.

I will always consider it a great privilege to have been friends with Greg, a truly fine man and musician, always ready with a hearty laugh and uncomplaining hard work. We shared the pit on many musicals and plays including the various Patsy Cline shows around Atlanta, as well as many other gigs.
Along with many other local musicians, Greg joined me just 5 weeks ago for the huge jam after my wedding. I can see him grinning right now as he clambered over all the guitar amps to get back behind the drum kit and lay it down.
Rest in peace, dear friend.

This is terrible news! I never played with Greg but I've heard him play and he's a great guy to talk to. We've lost 3 drummers this year, Wayne Stephens, Mark Ensley, and Greg Mauldin. Our prayers goes out to his family.

It was an honor for me to have played music with Greg on his last gig the Friday before he passed, and also to have played at his service on Thursday. He was a great guy who loved his family more than anything. He will be missed.
