Doug Rippeto RIP

Post by Don E. Curtis »

It seems as though we've lost another great steel guitarist here in St. Louis as Doug Rippeto has left us...he was 53 years old and had just recently lost his dad a couple weeks ago and also his mother last year. He was a huge Gospel Music fan and loved to make recordings. Unfortunately he was unable to play due to a stroke and had diabetes etc...

His funeral arrangements are through:
Baue Funeral & Worship Center
3950 W Clay
St. Charles MO 63301
Thursday night for visitation
Friday is the funeral and here is the link:

Whoa! Gosh, Doug and I had
put in many hours talking,
listening and playing steel
back in the '80's.
Doug was an excellent
guitarist and steel player.

I’m sorry to hear about the loss of another good friend. I’ve known Doug for 30 years. In the 70s’, we spent many late nights at his apartment listening to and talking about the LPs he had in his collection. We would go to his home after his gig at the Rawhide Saloon and talk for hours.

I’ll miss him...

Really ruined my day when I heard about Doug. We met several years ago at Abdule's birthday jam, where we talked steel guitars and played some in Abdule's garage. Doug was very talented and humble about his playing. He said he had some health problems that were bothering his playing, but I didn't realize they were severe. His playing was excellent that day, and he seemed very happy to be there. Very sad. D.D.

I am shocked and saddened of Dougs passing. Have known him since the late 70's and enjoyed listening to him play. I just recently ran into Doug and we talked for about an hour and glad I had that moment...RIP my friend
