Guitarist Kenny Gill

Post by billy tam R.I.P. »

I was very sad to hear this evening that my friend and superb guitarist Kenny Gill had passed away. From Louisiana Kenny had played for many years with the late Gov. Jimmy Davis. He was the guitarist on many hit records from lthe 50's & 60's such as "Leaving it up to you" by Dale & Grace and Jimmy Clanton hits. He had the premier music store in Baton Rouge for many years but retired and moved to the Nashville area to pursue his first love - music. the last time I saw him he was with Steamboat somebody doing a lot of Earnest Tubb songs.Kenny was one of the most talented persons I've ever known in many ways. Although he had very little education by todays standard he was successful in ever endeavor he attempted. He will be missed.
thanks,
Billy

Just seeing this. I hadn't heard about Mr Gill's death. I had the priviledge of playing with him on several occasions. Great player and a true gentleman.
