Recording Steel Direct (PodXT)

For the past few years I've been going amp-less in many local recording sessions.

It's been working for me. I appreciate the lack of setup time and consistency it provides.

I spend a lot of time at home tweaking my PodXT using the computer interface.

A current project I'm involved in is a Blue Rodeo Tribute Band.

The goal was to sound as close as possible to their original recordings. I'm quite proud with the results I achieved with this setup.

Equally impressive to me is Five Songs were tracked in one seven hour session. (including vocals, and a full band.)
Mixing was done in another six hour session.

Carter with XR-16 > Hilton VP > PodXT > Studio Board

The Peterson Tuner was connected to the VP's second output.

Kool Joey, I think that for us earthlings this is an excellent studio setup. I am gathering that you wrote several presets for the Pod.

neat photo. The few sessions I do I still lug an amp.

I've used my POD XT direct on the last couple of sessions I've done. I'm using it direct tomorrow as I'm finishing up a CD probject for an "Semi-Retired" Nashville songwriter.

Yes, Tony, I write my own presets, in a way.

What I really do is modify others.
I go thru the (mostly useless) factory presets, find something close, and tweak it to match what I need.

As the years go by, I'm modifying my modified sounds.

I never could warm up to using the stand-alone programming. I do almost all my programming using it's graphical interface, on my computer.

Joey,

Sounds nice .. I've also been recording direct with the Pod XT. In the below example I'm running through a Pod XT direct to my pc using Cakewalk Home Studio software. I downloaded the guitar/vocal mp3 and added the steel. It still needs to be mixed and compression added but the tone,in my opinion anyway is better then I expected.

As far as playing live.. If i can get away with leaving my amp home and running direct to the board with the Pod XT I will..
