Watch show #6. This is a YouTube "Youtraxtv" thing thing( before this I never heard of it ) .
Just click on the arrow in the video picture to play.
I was contacted by Dwight Mallory who come to find out lives in Nova Scotia, he is one of the resident YouTube Cakewalk Sonar experts ( dustpuppy) and has excellent tutorials regarding the use of Sonar.Dwight asked if I would be part of the project, I said sure.
Dwight sent me a ruff mix song, basic tracks, asked me to play some Steel Guitar on it. This occurred at the same time I added Sonar to my PC so I did the unthinkable, learned software and recorded a track at the same time.
My first pass I was not happy with as I did not feel it matched the song..delete...I walked away from the track for a week or so and then came back with a totally different approach which is non country, not typical, minimal notes.
Dwight sent me an FTP upload address, I saved the Sonar project file of which I played my parts on two tracks, left the parts RAW ( he is the producer ) and uploaded the project file to the FTP address. Dwight had the ability to use or not use any or all of what I sent him.
In the video above, as Dwight shows the Sonar project on his PC you can see the two tracks I sent him in the middle of the track view screen. When I first saw this it was a rush, amazing, internet..good grief..
This was fun and a good experience but difficult in that without understanding what a producer is looking for it is very easy to give them something that they do not want or like. It may be great playing but not worthy of the song in question.
Dwight did a nice job on this tune and when I heard the final version back for the 1st time I was pretty pleased overall and felt I was pretty close to what the song was calling for. Not flash, not licks, but gentle phrasing underneath the vocals. By the way, there was no Piano on the track I was sent, it had already been recorded but not added to my file. On this tune I am pretty amazed at how close the Piano and Steel parts blend.
I have already been contacted by several YouTube Internet types regarding this track and requesting assistance on other Internet sessions.
It is a small world after all!
I recorded the Steel direct to the PC via a Tascam US-144 Interface and a cheap ART tube preamp on the front end.

A new way of doing business. I really like the song and the Steel track in particular.
Great job Tony!
