Can you expand your answer to Bob Martin's question's about looping and FX, now that you've had hand's on time, please. Can it edit 'tracks' easily?
And, how do you like it at this point, and what don't you like.
So far this looks to be the unit I'd be looking to buy. I also like the fact that you can direct the built in mics.

Ron , the looping is for setting a start point and a finish point. for example, if you want to learn a lick you set the start and end then you can loop it and it will play it over and over, also you can slow down without changing the pitch.
Overdubbing, if you had a backing track you wanted to put some steel on , you can overdub the track , it will make a new recording and keep the original track.
you could then put another guitar or other instrumint on the new track , again it will make a new track , you can go on like this until you build up a good recording, if you make a mistake then you can remove the bad recording and retry, you an also use the guitar FX's while recording. you will not have the same control over the recording as you would useing Adobe Audition or such like.
all the FX's cad be altered to suit your neeeds.

It is very useful tool, there is not much setting up to do and you can use it anywhere. I have been taking it to the gigs and plug in the steel and with a small pair of headphones I can warm up without anyone hearing me.
Also you could put it through your amp and use the fx's , so far I have not done this apart from trying to see if it would work,well it did work but I need to reset the amp to get a good sound.

John-What do you think? I am hoping to get some Comparisions on portable recorders. It would appear that the Tascam DR1 is the new kid on the block. How does it compare with the others, say Zoom H2 or H4, etc. I am thinking of getting one.I like the idea for builtin Mics, now that they seem to have good sound now,...thanks...al

Al, I have not tried any of the others, but I am over the moon with the Tascam GT-R1. It has so many useful feactures, You can plug your steel in to it and use the fx's or play along with your backing tracks, It's the one to go for...John

John-Thanks for your response and valuable input. What is the difference in the GT R1 or the Tascam DR 1. I see one is red and one is blacke, but are they two different recorders.?...al.

Al, here are the links to each of the units... Unlike the DR-1, the GT-R1 has an instrument input with amp simulation and effects.
