Tascam US144

Post by Ron ! »

I talked to a fellow steeler yesterday who had nothing but good comments about this unit and that made me decide to order me one.
Is there anyone who used this interface yet and has some more info?

Thank you so much,

Ron

yes, I have one and have used it a few times. Very easy to use very flexible, two analog channels with phantom power, ( Line, Guitar or MICS ) and midi inputs, the setup is a tad qwerky but once it is installed it's a breeze. Once installed it shows up under MIDI devices available and is really a seamless interface for either an analog signal or midi device.

no regrets

XP=yes, Vista=no

I have one of these, and it worked very well in Windows XP. My XP box died and I have had some difficulty getting it to play nice with my new Vista machine. If you are running Vista, expect to run in to a few roadblocks with the drivers. I had previously posted a positive review about this unit, but since then I have run into a few problems trying to dig in to some of the more advanced features. I am sure that Tascam will solve the driver issues with time, but I am currently very frustrated with the unit. Feel free to give me a shout if you have questions or want more detail!

Tony......mine came with Cubase LE....how ever I used it on "Cooledit" and have to say that that is way better then Cubase LE....It works a lot easier and is more accurate.No fumblin' around with echo, reverb, etc etc.

If you have Cooledit then I suggest you try it one time.Just set your device managers in Cooledit for the US-144....very easy.
You will see it works better that way.

Take care,

Ron

Ron, I do use Cool Edit, but my purpose of the sequencing software and USB Interface is totally different. My primary use is for drum editing over Wave or MIDI files that I write. Sometimes this can be 8 or 10 midi tracks.I purchased this interface more thinking of a FUTURE recording platform that I may decide to use. I spent years in the Cakewalk world. I may go back.
