I think it's only effective on SINGULAR instrument polyphonic material.... Within a mixed audio environment where there are multiple instruments involved it wouldn't be transparent.. it would change the pitch of all instruments playing that particular note..
So if the guitar had a wrong note in its chord and you changed it, the piano chord that was sitting with the guitar in the mix would have ITS correct note changed to a wrong one !! presuming they were in the same octave.
Only usable in a singular instrument mode.. i.e. before mixdown.
Of course it means that provided the steel isn't mixed down i.e. still on a discrete track, you can edit notes within its chords to make harmonies that are totally impossible to play ... who will be first to astound us ?
Of course it will then pose the question every time we listen to a record, did they or didn't they use it ?
Like a certain person on one particular run on the Orange Blossom Special, tracked with tape speed changed.. eventually he owned up to it, but for a long while it was one of those "Oh my God" things..
We COULD be in for a plethora of "How the F**k was that done" A veritable surfeit even.. (Hankeyisms)
Actually it has been on the forum since the 15th b0b.
