BIAB 2008 Steel Example

Post by Joey Ace »

I'm posting this in the Recording section, because I want you guys to hear an example of what BIAB 2008 is doing.

The above is a link to Neil Cotton's demo page.
He's a local singer / songwriter and good friend.

I've played many shows with him over the years, but his heart is in writing, more-so than performing, and he's been using BIAB for most of his demos. This is the first one I've heard with Steel, and it's quite good.

The song is "Pipe Dream".

Good thing I have other gigs. :)

BTW, the song "Georgetown Will Alway Be Home", on that same page, features me on Dobro, and was recorded at a real studio with real musicians.

Joey, All I can say is thank God for live steel as opposed to BIAB. The BIAB steel sounded amateurish...something that I might play, with my very limited skills.

Your dobro on the other hand was great..right out front and authoritative.

Nice to see that they'll have a hard time replacing or substituting the real thing.

Ive been messin' with the live steel some.Ive noticed that it seems to respond to simple chords ok,but really gets confused when I order anything more that a maj or mi. or 7th. Another thing I've noticed is it helps to enter the chord twice in the same bar.Helps it to sustain. PJ

The steel doesn't sound any better than the bass and drums, which are pretty awful. I think our project studio jobs are secure. Nobody would ever mistake that for a real band.
