Masterlink Rocks

Post by Mark van Allen »

How many other engineers are mixing down to the Alesis Masterlink? I've been using one for years now, one of the best things in my studio. Instead of mixing entirely "in the ProTools box", I usually come out of the main outs, into a Nightpro Mastering EQ, then optical compression, then the Masterlink. Depending on the project I may add some look-ahead limiting or compression in the Masterlink, but usually don't when projects are going to outside mastering. I really love this thing. (And shamelessly, have my spare on the for sale thread if anyone needs one). Anybody have any settings/tricks they feel like sharing?

Me :). Very similar chain--a NightPro EQ3D into and SSL compressor and then into an Apogee A/D into the Masterlink... I keep meaning to send mine to Jim Wiliiams at Audio Upgrades--his mods really help out the unit if you are using their front end...

Very handy for updating recall, plus nice to have a CD player built in. I keep one of the playlists as my studio demo to have instant access to...

Been using mine for quite a while. The hard drive died, now I've got a bigger one in there that holds a bunch more audio. Here's an old link to Eddie Ciletti's website with info on the Masterlink.

Thanks, Jerry. These are great units, one of the most useful things I have in my studio.
