Hooking up a DVD player to a 20 yr old TV

Okay, here's the stupid question of the day: Can I do this, or do I need to get a new TV?

I'd like to hook a cheap DVD player into my bedroom televsion, but it's 20 years old and doesn't have direct input jacks (coaxial only). My cable wire goes into the VCR, then out to the TV.

My VCR has RCA jacks...in and out...can I hook the DVD player into VCR jacks and play through it? I assume the TV would be set to 3, and VCR channel would have to be set to "Line", so I could watch the DVD.

The reason I'm asking first, is because I want to be sure the DVD player isn't more powerful and would fry my VCR somehow. Someone at an electronics store once told me you shouldn't do that because the signal is to strong coming from the DVD player.

Can anyone out there help set me straight?

Most DVD players also have the coax input outputs so all you have to do is put it in line with the VCR and TV.

The DVD players are no "stronger" than any other device they will not harm another device.

I have had to plug a DVD player with RCA outs into a TV with only a coaxial input. I bought a device at Walmart for about $20 that does this. You plug the RCA cables into its inputs, then run from its coaxial output to the TV.

You wouldn't have to fool with moving your VCR if you did this. But I know of no reason why your VCR solution wouldn't work.

it should be fine as long as the movies you are watching are no newer than 1986...
