My Vegas 400 is the quietest amp I've ever heard since I put a Lemay mod in it. No hum, no hiss, just good sound (at least as good as I can make it sound).

If you're running directly to the Profex II instead of through the volume pedal, hook it up after the volume pedal. That will keep it for overloading as bad and with the lower signal and effects chain with a compressor in it will work better.
It's been about 5 years since I had my Profex II (and I never used it much) but I seem to remember the input LED is supposed to be on or come on at peaks for proper operation. That didn't seem to be a problem, as I remember.
Somebody on here that's still using a Profex II should be able to comment more on that.

Jack, your right about the input level,
my 705 's end up pushing the input about
half, anymore and it will clip.
Also like you said ,put the profex right
after the Volumn pedal.
The funny thing about these Effects Units
is one guy loves em the next guy don't, but
sometimes the guys that don't, havn't experimented with them enough. Greg

I was over-drivin' my ProfexII for a while, then I lowered the pickup about a quarters thickness (705, 19,450 ohm) a bit till it started sounding clean. For some reason, some pickups are are a little too hot for the pre-amps of various systems. I had a GK pre-amp that I had to actually change the input R/C network in order to get it to quit distorting.

I took Greg's post to heart and started experimenting some. I took the profex out of the rack, just set it on my nv1000 and ran it in the effects loop .. guitar straight into the amp. I found my combination!! I have tone now that I think would even make some vets drool!!
... Sometimes the old "keep it simple, stupid" addage hits real close to home!! I still might try the mod .. but now it's "why bother?" .. thanks for all the input ..
