The Shortest Country Song

Post by Harold Bullard »

I remember hearing Don Curtis play something like this years ago and for some reason it just popped back into my head. I don't remember exactly how he played it, but it's just for fun anyway. Play it in any key, but play it quick.

"The Shortest Song In the World" is the name of the 18 second tune on Don's "Etched in Steel" CD. Reccommended!

Personally I never believed this is the world's shortest song, but I never could find a shorter one, and I don't have the time to write one. Image

I do know the world's shortest poem.
It's called "Fleas".

Didn't know this was an "album cut". But it could be the shortest country song, cause the faster you play it, the shorter it gets.

I thought the shortest poem was:

Adam
had 'em.

I think it was Kenny Price that had "the shortest song in the world". If I remember right, it was on the "B" side of one of his 45's. The words were" This is the shortest song in the world". I've done it many of times as a break song and it's fun watching people get on the dance floor about the time its over. Hope I'm right! Ray Qualls

And the longest song title award goes to Hoagy Carmicheal, who wrote I'm a cranky old yank in a clanky old tank on the streets of Yokohama with my Honolulu mama singin' those beat-o beat-o flat on my seat-o Hirohito blues.

I played this tune many many times with Kenny Price & he loved doing it in a club just to see the confused looks. Of course it was shuffle so I loved getting to play it . (For the 13 seconds it lasted)

Jim, I think that Kenny Price was another one of the great voices that really wasn't appreciated as much as he should have been. I bet that you had a lot of fun playing with the "Round Mound of Sound".

The Kenny Price and Don Curtis tracks are different songs with the same name.

It's interesting that copyright violations do not apply to song titles. There are at least several hundred songs titles <U>"I Love You"</U>.

John,
You continue to amaze me!

My Dad used to sing the Kenny Price tune. It sure confused any dancers that might have decided to dance to it. It seemed to be over before it started. Ralph Emery used to play it on WSM.

Yeah, the tab's really close, I kinda did it as a joke, but back in Indianapolis this was a real popular break tune, but it did have vocals, so it was suposed to be the Kenny Price tune, but I've never heard the original. So the Intro and the Ending are from Buddy Emmons "See How To Play, Hear How To Play" Course and LP. The Intro is from "Swingin' Doors" and the Ending is from "Walk Me To The Door", the very end, after the "Different Kind Of Flower" lick...
With a scant Melody in between and ther you have it!
It was cool to see this post and the Tab too!
I take a lot of flack about it being so short, but used to get a big kick out of doing it as the opener on Steel Shows!
And if freaks the M.C.'s out too!
Thanks!
Don
