It's my preferred album too.
There was a time, this album was frowned upon by the steel guitar community, calling the arrangements "cheesy" and Byrd's playing too "commercial" and even "simple"... yet only very few managed to duplicate it.
I for one find JB's playing on it splendid and fitting and most beautifully articulated and almost free of tuning-clichés steel guitar tends to fall into (one can't really say for sure which tuning he is playing, and actually, one can play many of these tunes note for note in a variety of the tuning he was known to use. Likewise we know that he played several tunes in different tunings with almost no noticeable changes.).
A LOT of long single note lines, very different to his typical approach in 3rds/6ths.
