My first post here. I am a 64 year old beginner guitar player from just south of Indianapolis. I took lessons years ago and just recently started taking them again
My passion is building things particularly amps. I built and play through a Weber high power deluxe reverb and I am in the process of building a standard deluxe reverb, the last of my parts from AES arrive next week.
I came here because of the JBL knowledge you forum members have.
I purchased a “hybrid” d120 assembly from upland speaker service(I only mention this to establish the quality potential of the assembled kit). I purchased the assembly in early 2023 and due to a move I am just now starting to assemble the speaker. My first speaker build.
My concern is that when I trial fit the assembly, shim in place and with the spider fully seated and centered, the suspension edge of the cone is setting a strong 1/8” above the basket. Will this be an issue, as the spider will most likely be in tension when the cone is glued to the basket
Thank you in advance for any advice given!

Re: Rebuilding a JBL d120f
Simply Speakers.com That's where I bought my D130 kits and did them myself. My very first recone attempt was great@ They have videos to show you how to do it. Yes the voice coil is supposed to set 1/8 inch above the cone .WATCH THE JBL RECONE VIDEO! Hope this helps.
