Hey folks

I made an impulsive buy this morning and need some help figuring out what to do.

The serial suggests it’s 1971 but nothing quite matches up to other guitars I'm seeing searching images. The end plates are black, there are two pickup screws, and there is no model name. It’s got some oxidation underneath but seems it can be brought back to playable condition with effort.

I’ve worked on a few guitars in the past but It’s mostly coped and lube work. I’ve mostly worked on scissor type changers, never even played a sho~bud before.

Can somebody tell me what this is so I can try to figure out if I can bring it back.
I’m not very deep into it financially but experience tells me there is a lot of work here so I am hoping to figure out if I can get a few parts for it and start research.

Also if you have any experience and advice whether I should go down this wormhole I'd appreciate some perspective.

Without pictures of the underside, kinda hard to be sure. Appears to be a Crossover based on the 6 floor pedals and the black end plates but I don't see the lever that actuates the crossover mechanism. Also, most of those models didn't have the aluminum surrounding the pickup and changer.

Oh awesome. Thanks Kenny. I think you are right. Changer and pickup differences had me stumped. I added a pic for reference but seems like you nailed it.

Looks like the c6 crossover lever was decommissioned and I have a Lot to read up about for this mixed review steel

Yes, definitely a Crossover, with the solid cast frame and rear apron. Likely one of last ones made from remaining parts as they were transitioning to the new Professional design, hence the later Pro style neck/tailpiece. The serial is hard to read in the pic but it looks like 1189?

Having a rack and barrel pull system. And only the Front E9th neck looks like it may have all the parts.
It would take many rods and barrels to get the C6th neck up and running.
