Looking at two different amps; which should I pick?

Post by Blake Balusek »

I’m looking at buying two different amps: a Sho-Bud Twin Transistor or a Peavey Nashville 400.

I’m a beginner to steel & my playing is going to be mostly isolated to my bedroom, so neither low weight nor high wattage is a necessity. Just enough wattage for the steel to sound well.

I’ve been playing guitar on a Fender tube amp solely and haven’t messed around much with solid-state amps, so I’m not sure if they’d be good for me.

The Sho-Bud and Nashville 400 are just what’s in my area currently. If you have any other suggestions let me know. Thanks.

Which Fender tube amp are you currently using? Which steel guitar are you playing? You might not need to upgrade your equipment yet.

I'm currently in the process of buying a steel. A friend of mine is managing an estate of a late steel collector, & I'm looking at buying a six pedal Emmons single neck. We're sorting things out at the moment, & I should have it in a week or two; I'm just wondering what amp I should get once I have the steel.

I have a Fender Deluxe Reverb reissue. It's great, but I'd like to expand my setup. I'm playing a few guitars with it & I'd like to eventually have a separate area for my steel. I'll most likely run my steel on the Fender in the beginning & then purchase another amp when I feel ready.

Buy the Nashville 400......you will get good tone and if needed they can easily be repaired or serviced.

What Mike K said, NV400 with the original BW speaker is a legendary steel guitar workhorse, superb for practice or stage use.
