Does this exist?
I was thinking about a pedal that would digitally recreate the signal of a single coil but remove the 60 cycle hum. Most people seem to prefer the tone of single coil, but at some point many decide to go humbucker mostly for this reason. I am one of these people. Oddly I have a feeling if you take away the hum the magic would also be lost. Just thinking out loud.
I own a multi Fx, all in one amp-cabinet simulator digital pedal and it does a really good job of recreating the sound of a real amp. The weirdest part is the hum and feedback from a single coil are also there, maybe even exaggerated. It even changes in the same way depending how the pickup is oriented to the pedal. I just find this fascinating and strange.

In another thread someone suggested a Hum X. Looks like it may be a solution for you

Re: Does this exist?
No. A Hum-X is used when using 2 amps causing a ground loop hum. You would plug one amp into the Hum-X to lift it's ground. They probably meant the Hum Debugger pedal. The Hum-X has no effect on single coil hum, I own one and tried.Bill McCloskey wrote: 25 Apr 2025 6:46 am In another thread someone suggested a Hum X. Looks like it may be a solution for you

I have a noise gate on my pedal board and can dial out the noise floor (hum/buzz) if I am using my XR-16 pickups in single coil mode and have hum issues. Noise gates can be had fairly cheap and work.

I have a ISP Technologies Hum Extractor + Decimator G for guitar single coils, when I'm recording, especially with OD, in a noisy situations. Does really well with doing that.
I have telonics pickup in my steel now, humbucker. It actually kind of sounds like a single coil, to me. I like it better than the single coil I had. And I'm a die hard single coil on guitar guy and love the old, single coil steel sound.
There is also the Lace pickup, which sounds single coil like, but I prefer the Telonics.

I swear by the Hum Debugger. Best pedal I ever bought. I pull it out of circuit if the AC power supply is really good, but most of the time it is in circuit.

Re: Does this exist?
According to Ebtech’s specs, the Hum X isn’t a ground lift, it maintains equipment ground. It also states that it isn’t designed to get rid of cable related or guitar pickup related hum. However, I have used one in venues that have given our guitar player fits, and I was spared the problem. So, I use one everywhere, just in case.

Re: Does this exist?
Thanks for all the tips. I am little scared to go down the rabbit hole with this stuff again. It always leads to spending a lot of time and money and I never seem to get anywhere. It sounds like there are some options and I shouldn't give up on my single coils. Anyone tried a dummy coil? I know some tele players like those.
