Line6 HX Stomp for pedal steel

Post by Doug Taylor »

Does anyone have any recommendations for a pedal steel preset free or paid for the HX Stomp. I use this for bass all the time and love the sound I get but cannot get anything I am even remotely happy with for pedal steel.

I prefer buying or downloading presets I can tweak as my starting from scratch skills are not too good!

There are 270 pages of HX Stomp presets on the Line6 website:

Here are the ones listed with "steel" as the search term.

Unfortunately I have no direct experience with this pedal, but I hope this helps you a bit. Good luck!

Thank you Brad, I have tried some of these, while most all of them sound good on guitar and I have a couple for bass that sound fantastic! Everything I have tried does not really get me what I am looking for my steel. Some are ok but not quite it. I was hoping someone could recommend a preset they are using.

I do all my practicing at home with headphones and have never tried these settings on stage. The main sound I was trying to capture was the old Peavey Session style sound.

I use the Line 6 Clarity amp with the Dripman cabinet. I have the Ch1 Drive set to 1.0 which is about the lowest value that provides a decent signal. I leave Boost, Sag and Hum alone. All of the tone controls and Ch Vol are set to snapshots:

Code: Select all

Snapshot Bass Mid Treble Presence Ch Vol
1 Base Tone 8.5 6.5 3.3 2.5 9.0
2 High Tone 5.4 6.8 8.0 4.4 8.0
3 Low Tone 10.0 3.8 2.1 4.6 5.0
On the speaker I use the 421 Dynamic 1.0" off the cap and 6.0" back angle 0 no eq.

Maybe this can help you get started. I DO NOT have "golden ears" but the Clarity and 15" seem to go together well for pedal steel. Many tweaks are possible to suite your steel and ears. I will add there are many eq blocks in the Helix that you can use to taylor your final polish.

Jamie that is a very nice starting point, I am still tweaking but very usable! I also bought a twin preset with a 15 speaker from Tone Junkie, I swapped out the 15 with a PF IR and it is working very well also. For the first time I feel like this may be a usable setup live.

I'm glad it was useful. I don't think the Clarity amp model is very demanding so you can still add reverb, delay, eq and the like. A nice 15" IR sounds like a good idea.
