Gibson Console Grand

Post by Jim Bookholt »

I just acquired an old Gibson Console Grande. It is a 8/7 string 3 legged model and needs strings. I do not know what to buy and nothing about tuning. Any help to get me started would be most appreciated.

Yes you’ll get better response(probably a flood of opinions!) if you post in that thread.
In the meantime my questions are: what kind of music do you like and what kind do you want to play? That’s square one.

I would put E13 on the 7 string neck, leaving off the lowest note, usually A. If you want to play Hank Williams 1940s/50s tunes I’d use this set: (hi to lo strings) G#EC#BG#EC# https://steelguitarshopper.com/sit-stri ... tring-set/
This A6 set on the 8 string neck
