It was too dark for me. The 418 8h is the one you want.

Thanks Mike. There’s one for sale to me locally at a very good price. Also being a bass player, I’m still tempted.

If you get it for bass, try it with steel. My Nashville 400 has a Black Widow 1502, which is a bass speaker. I have tried the 1501 guitar speaker and prefer the 1502 bass speaker. I have a friend that had a Fender Steel King and put a JBL D140 in it and liked it better than the stock speaker.
Carter D10 8p/7k, Dekley S10 3p/4k C6 setup, Regal RD40 Dobro, Recording King Professional Dobro, NV400, NV112, Ibanez Gio guitar, Epiphone SG Special (open G slide and regular G tuning guitar) .

Playing for 55 years and still counting.

It can’t hurt to try. Altec made great speakers and at a good price, what do you have to lose. I think I paid 75-100 for one some years ago. The 418 8H is considerably higher.

I have no experience with the 421. I did have 418b in my Twin Reverb for many years until I could no longer schlep it. Can't imagine a better speaker for steel guitar.
