One of the very best to ever pick up a guitar. It is often stated, "Often imitated, never duplicated", but that really goes for Jeff. He is actually quite hard to even imitate. I only saw him once, with the first Jeff Beck Band, circa 1969 or 70. I spent a pretty long time trying to cop what he was doing. There is no way to overestimate how much he influenced me back then.

RIP Jeff.

Wow, just saw this ... Bacterial Meningitis is pretty fast. When I was a kid, we were practicing a song to sing in Church the next day, and Julie was there with us singing as well, though she said she wasn't feeling 100%... She treated it as a cold/flu thing and the next morning she was gone, a week later I was a Pall Bearer... she was 16ish and a really sweet kid.

RIP Jeff Beck
Saw him a couple of times in concert in Australia about 12 years ago.
Great guitarist. Awesome band too. Vinnie Colaiuta, David Sanford, Tal Wilkenfeld.
I love the album Guitar Shop of his which is pretty much all instrumental.
Have been a fan of his for years. My mum is a fan too she saw him in the 1960's in London

Saw him play live only once, with the Yardbirds at Dayton's department store in downtown Mpls, circa '66 (?). Jimmy Page played bass.
I remember reading an interview towards the end of the last century in one of the major rock guitar magazines. The writer asked Jeff something like "who's really the best, Eric, Jimmy, or yourself?" Beck answered "well, there's Les Paul, there's Django..."
Lotsa guys can sound like Clapton. Page inspired an entire genre of imitators. But nobody could play like Jeff Beck.

RIP Jeff,

Saw him many times and was always amazed, the last time was when he toured with Brian Wilson.

Saw him at Tower Records on Sunset Blvd. in '86 or '87.

His Live recording at Ronnie Scott's is amazing, also if you can check out the two-part video of him on 'Car Crazy' with Barry McGuire, he was a big car guy specializing in '32 roadsters coupes and other great Hot Rods.

You will be missed!!

I just saw a headline--I was totally unprepared. What a shock. I am so sad. He seemed ageless. A real virtuoso with a completely unique style. That guitar was a conduit to his heart and soul. A true artist. We lost a talent that can't be replaced. Thankfully we have the recordings.

I don't know how many times I played his "Wired" album when I was a teen trying to learn guitar. Well, I am still learning so maybe I will play it some more. Beck was truly unique in style.

Sad news. I followed Beck from the 60s. His Blow by Blow, Wired and Guitar Shop are still ground breaking music. Nobody has imitated his technical skills. I was stunned by his whammy bar technique and how he milked notes from that Strat. A legend and icon in the Guitar world. RIP Jeff.

Like many I've been a fan (still am) for near 60 years. I never saw him play live though, too bad for me. The Yardbirds played a show in our hometown but our band had a gig that night so we missed it. WE REALLY MISSED IT, both Beck and Page were playing guitar in the band that night ! Jeffs playing in the earliest days from the Y Birds , the JB group , to Beck, Bogert & Appice etc... was ground breaking. He was clearly leading the pack . In his later years Jeff become nothing less than Iconic.

RIP Jeff, you made your mark and you built pretty kool Hot Rods as well !

Where it all began for Jeff, who knew ...

Young hippie musician when a friend suggested going to see this guitar player that was playing in NYC. Scalped tickets barely, 6th row center and he melted my tie dye right off. Life changing. Just saw him in October and he was huge, and at 78 years old. Hard to believe it was the same person I had seen 42 years earlier. In this age of tribute acts, Beck was, is and will remain tribute-proof.

That was There And Back, my favorite Beck album/period. I remember going to the Palladium 2 nights to try and buy cheap tickets and failing. WPLJ used to play El Becko and one or two other tunes from the album and that really sent me in another direction.
And Rough and Ready. man.

Huge loss. Jeff Beck also knew how to pick great singers. From Rod Stewart to Emogin Heap. Bob Tench, from Rough and Ready was my fav. He now plays guitar with Allen Price. Always the very best players in his bands. A couple of incredible female bassists not to mention Jennifer Batten on guitar. Always pushing boundaries which so few are able to do. The very best. Gone. RIP.

I totally agree with all that has been said but will add he was a wonderful human being.
His love of life and all living creatures was a side rarely known. Yes, he was a master guitarist and the tributes from all the top world guitarists on his outstanding ability are proof of this.
The angels will have to warm up their instruments and be ready for his outstanding ability to lead them onward to higher grades of instrumentals. His light will keep shining!
