This sounds like the problem is getting enough volume out of a dynamic mic to fill up a volume envelope adequately.
I get a better sound with a direct box but when I used an sm57 I always had the problem of having to crank the amp so I that I had trouble hearing the scratch track.
If someone has a way to get around this issue, I am sure it would be helpful.
giving up on dynamic mics !!!

How are you connected to where you can't get enough level?James Quillian wrote:This sounds like the problem is getting enough volume out of a dynamic mic to fill up a volume envelope adequately.

I use an "interface" and each channel has a "trim pot" . I just turn that up but not so far that it clips. You'd have something similar on a mixer.
I use REAPER as a cue mixer and track with old n-Track 3.0 on the same computer at the same time. That lets me use REAPER as-if it were a mixer. This allows me to adjust the level of everything in the cue mix.
Even if you just use the mic/line in from a "soundcard" builtin to the motherboard, you should have a way to adjust the volume.
