Don Helms' New Album

Post by Smiley Roberts »

Don Helms has a new album available. It contains 15 cuts. Six of the cuts are instrumentals that Don,& The Drifting Cowboys, cut in 1953,shortly after Hank Sr.'s death. They, also, feature,on guitar,a "new kid" in town,by the name of Chet Atkins,& the late,Miss Del Wood on piano. I had these three records (6 sides) in my library, which I transfered to a DAT tape.I gave the DAT tape to Doyle Grisham,to "run through" his computer. He "cleaned 'em up",& transfered them to anothern DAT tape. I was amazed,to say the least. They sound like they were cut yesterday.(Smiley's note:For those of you who do not know Doyle Grisham,he played steel, many years, for the Glaser Bros. You've heard him play because,he played on all of Randy Travis' hits. He,now, plays STEEL for,of all people,Jimmie Buffett.) Anyway,we presented Don w/ the tape,& he included it on this new album. The other songs on the album are newer material. The name of the album is,"Don Helms. 50 Years Of Legendary Steel Guitar". Doyle & I are very proud to have had a hand in assisting w/ supplying some of the material for this album. This was our gift to Don,from us. The next time Jett Williams & the Drifting Cowboys play your town,be sure & pick up a copy of Don's CD. You won't be disappointed.

Smiley,

Thanks for your interesting story on how your old records made it to Don Helms' new CD. I bought the CD several weeks ago and really have enjoyed it. Of course, I am a big fan of Don's style and this CD features it well.
