Now For The Pickup Hum!

Post by Dennis Detweiler »

Unfortunately, I live across the street from a power substation and tall high power lines running along the street next to my house. I play a U-12 and love the single coil Truetone pickups that I had wound to 18000. I think I'm going to have to replace it with a humbucker. So, which pickup? Bill Lawrence? The 12's have to be wound slightly lighter than a 10 to get near to the same tone. I found this out after having my TT rewound (reduced) twice from the recommended winding. Any experience with this pickup and recording problem?
Thanks!

If your amp has a phase switch that MIGHT help. If this is just for recording, you could eliminate the hum later with a plugin. Waves has a good hum remover. If you don't have something like that, a one-band parametric EQ could eliminate it with the correct settings.

I recently replaced my single coil Truetone with a Telonics humbucker. Problem solved.
