Hey guys, wife got me a Boss BR-1180 CD recorder for Christmas,(8 tracks) I just need to know some basic stuff
to get the best sound I can. #1- pan , where do I set the pan for each track I use? I have a round circle with a dial inside for each track. #2- EQ ,I have, Low Gain/ Low freq, High gain/ high freq. Also
have Chorus/Delay and Reverb. The Chorus/delay and reverb are set same as Pan, with the circle and dial which you can set anywhere from 9:00 to 3:00 5:00 etc. Also the reverb has type > Hall or Room > reverb time > reverb tone > and reverb effect level.
If you guys could just give me suggestions for setting the Pan, the EQ > Lows/Highs, and Chorus/delay, I think I can set the reverb fairly close. So far my instruments kinda sound like everything is all run together, not much seperation. I'd appreciate any help ya'll can give me. Thanks
Terry
BTW- I'm using a Peavey XR 400 mixer and a peavey 2x12 speaker, along with a small pioneer speaker.
Newbee to recording on CD multitrack, help please

There is alot involved in recording. Reading the manual over and over will help. Reading posts on various recording forums will educate.
The eq is a matter of individual taste and ear training. Panning drum pieces left, right and center will produce a natural seperation. Bass can be center. Steel can be stereo if mixing with effects. Depends on the instruments and effects. It becomes a labor of art and love. Very time consuming.
If nothing else, it will keep you occupied and the wife might like that?

Thanks Dennis, I was kinda hoping for numbers for a starting place. For instance, Low gain -2db Low freq >140HZ High gain 2db high freq 2.0 KHZ etc. Chorus/Delay set at 12:00 Reverb at 10:00 etc.
Above is what the manual shows on the headline> "adjusting the tone, EQ. But I think it's just a 'for instance' instead of showing where the lows and highs should be set. Thanks again Dennis, and I am having fun with this thing, just hadn't learned much about how to make a nice recording yet.
