Computer can't handle it?

Hi ,all
I'm new to recording with the computer.
and on play back ,the sound, "Crackles, misses,Farts,"
only with bits of" Effects",on on.the more tracks are playing the worse it gets,
I got a ,intel 7 pc, a late model,
recording with "Mixcraft", and using a Tascam dm3200.
do I need a better sound card in the pc?

I have a home studio, using an i7 3770 CPU and Windows 7 64 bit, with Sonar X1 Producer 64 bit.

A frequent problem with Win 7 - regular PC audio and not recording is pops and cracks, etc. There is no one fix for this, many things can cause this, such as a wi-fi adapter, sound card drivers, video card drivers, etc. If the PC has these, without recording then you need to address this problem first.

Latency can also be an issue with the pops and cracks. Run the free DPC Latency Checker and see what it shows on the basic PC. http://www.thesycon.de/deu/latency_check.shtml


According to Sweetwater music's listing for the DM3200 you need the optional interface card for PC recording. You can run two channel analog from the device to a PC sound card but that is not the best option - a PC sound card makes a poor recording device, because of latency and other issues.

I just saw a post on the gearslutz forum and a user with an i7 reported he had to disable turbo boost to avoid audio crackling. You can try that and see if it helps (I didn't disable it on mine as I don't have the problem).

I do have the IF-FW/DM card,
but the card runs only on windows XP,
maybe that got something to do with it.
on the bright side. it does burn a perfect copy.
its only a bit embarrassing for me, letting clients listen to a recording,or playback.
were is the "Turbo Boost" location on the PC?
I'll try that.

found the "Turbo boost" on You-tube.
switch it off, made a 95% difference for the better,

What version of Mixcraft are you using? I have fewer problems recording into version 4 than five.

I don't know if this exactly relates, but I ran some songs from my HP laptop thru the headphone out, to a couple big amps as background for some songs.

There was a terrible cracking, all kinds of noises coming thru until I put a 3 prong to 2 prong adapter on the computer input line. It stopped it immediately. Apparently the ground noise was coming thru and when I eliminated the ground the problem was fixed.

I,m running mix-craft 5.
But I got the new version 6 as well ,
but don't want to use it, as is was popping more than 5.
But its not to bad now ,
over the weekend ,I miked up a full drum kit.
with "Noise -Gates, and eq,plus the 4 original tracks,
its struggles ,not much ,but the" egg timer" flicks on for split seconds,
it did help a lot switching the "Turbo boost "off.
would like it a bit better, but I can live with it,
