Fender Double Six?

Mike, "Gruhn's Guide to Vintage Guitars" says Dual 6 Professional was available until 1981, but It got Stringmaster features in 1957, including two pickups, the blender pot etc. Also Stringmaster was available with 6-string necks (maybe there's a triple-6 Stringmaster somewhere!). So what's the difference between, say a '65 D6 Stringmaster and D6 Dual Professional?
I'm not interested in buying this one, it just caught my eye...

Hey Max, I've never seen a double 6 except the "Direct String" model. I have about 16 Fender catalogs from the early 50's to the early 70's and only the early ones actually offer them in 6 string. Once the SM shows up the number of strings isn't mentioned. Still I 'd like to know if anyone has ever seen a 2x6 SMaster.I never have. I'd be surprised to see one.
The REAL valuable Gibson catalogs are the 58-60 ones, with the V, Explorer, 335 series and the flame top L Pauls, they're prety desireable to "paper" collectors. I traded some Fender 66+67 Catalogs, about 14 pieces, in a Fender Folder for a Metal Ricky. It makes great trading fodder. One thing collectors of that kind of stuff frown on is any writing, tears, etc. They want them perfect.

Mike: Stringmaster-style dual sixes do exist; I know someone who owns one. I tried to get him to sell it once, but he wasn't interested, even though he doesn't really play it. Maybe it's time to take another shot at that. . .

I've seen a few dual 6's, (direct string pickup style), so I didn't think they were really that rare. I've only seen the Stringmaster style in the catalogs.

By the way, Mike makes reference to Richard Smith's book Fender, the sound heard 'round the world. It is indeed the reference book on Fender instruments, with a lot of space devoted to steel guitars. Coincedently, I finally decided yesterday to bite the bullet and fork over fifty bucks for that book. I went to Barnes and Noble, and was told it had gone out of print. I was able to buy the display copy, thankfully. You can probably still get copies from stores that have it in stock, but you'd better hurry.

Forrest White's book is still available in paperback, as far as I know.

Double sixes aren't that rare, they just aren't as plentiful as D-8's....I've seen plenty of 'em, gathering dust mostly,
