Questions on preamp steel to laptop

Post by Duane Becker »

I've did some home recording before with the preamp of my Evans SE 200 amp into the back of the sound card on my desktop, but I'd like to use my laptop and go directly into the sound card of the laptop to mix the steel with tracks. If been using Calkwalk.
Rather then continue to use the Evans pre amp, I'd like to make it easier and get a stand alone pre amp between steel and laptop. What is a good and easy to use preamp? Also, I see Roland has an audio interface called Duo Capture. Would this work for me? Thanks Duane

There are lots of interfaces available. Several are designed for guitar and include amp modeling & effects; for example Behringer UCG102 at $34, and Peavey XPort at $60.

Duane,
I have used the Behringer U-CONTROL UCA222 USB Audio Interface. If you have a PodXT, or similar unit, you can play along with tracks into your computer. Not sure how it would work without a preamp...Bill

Duane, the suggestions listed above will work. The one I use is a bit more expensive but works superb.

I use an Allen/Heath Z10FX mixer as my sound card. I don't use an amp anymore, not even on the stage. I just use a pedal board with a Tech 21 Blonde to replace the amp.

I run from the output of my Blonde direct to the mixer and then input the audio into my Cakewalk track.

Works great.

On the stage I just go directly to the foh amp into a guitar channel (no amp to carry :)) But still through the pedal board first.
